Not surprisingly to car accident lawyers in Houston, the repairs that automaker Toyota announced with great fanfare just a few weeks ago, may not be working as well as the company intended. Houston accident lawyers have been able to confirm that there are at least 60 complaints related to cars that were fixed by Toyota dealerships, in which the acceleration problem does not seem to have been fixed at all.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has received at least 10 complaints involving vehicles that were repaired, but continue to speed up to dangerous levels anyway. Thus far, there are no reports of any serious injuries or deaths caused by acceleration in these supposedly repaired cars. The NHTSA is taking the issue seriously. It has confirmed that it is in the process of contacting the consumers who have filed these complaints to determine the magnitude of the problem.

To any car accident lawyer in Houston, it should come as no surprise that the repairs have not worked as well as to they were intended to. Many auto safety experts insist that the problem is contained in the wiring of the electronic throttle control systems in these vehicles.  The ECS system has not been addressed in the repairs that Toyota engineers developed a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile, a third congressional hearing into Toyota’s safety issues has been conducted in Washington DC. Lawmakers are placing pressure on the Department Of Transportation to require automakers to have brake overriding systems in their cars. These systems would allow the brake pedal to take precedence over the accelerator pedal when the two are pressed together. It would therefore, prevent the car from reaching excessive speeds.
