It’s hard to know who has seemed the most clueless about the causes for the sudden acceleration in Toyota cars – the automaker itself, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. We still have little information about what is causing the crash, but plenty of leads. The biggest leads seem to point to malfunctioning in electronics in Toyota vehicles.
Now, the federal administration has brought in scientists from NASA to help with the Toyota investigation. These engineers will join NHTSA investigators as they look for the reasons of crashes. The NASA engineers are expected to bring their substantial expertise in electromagnetic issues to the investigation.
A recent theory that has emerged is that the sudden acceleration is being caused by space radiation interference in electronics in these vehicles. Scientists have studied the effects of space rays on cell phones and computers for decades now, but their effect on automobiles has been left largely untouched. Space radiation experts believe that considering that Toyota vehicles come with large amounts of electronics and wiring, they could be at a high risk for interference from space rays.
Meanwhile, a special team consisting of members of the National Academy Of Sciences will also conduct a separate investigation into the causes of the acceleration.
Under immense pressure from Houston car accident lawyers and auto safety groups, it certainly seems like the federal administration does not want to leave out any possible factors uninvestigated. Toyota meanwhile has refused to admit that the malfunctioning of electronics to be at the center of the acceleration. The company continues to remain a state of denial, and the longer it continues to do so, the more liable it could find itself.
