Second Gas Explosion in Texas in Two Days

There have been two major gas explosions in Texas within two days of each other. The first explosion occurred near Cleburne in Texas, and killed one person. The utility worker who was killed in that explosion had been riding a truck that was drilling holes for poles, when a pipeline exploded. He was thrown several feet away from the explosion site, and was found dead later.

The seven other workers managed to drive themselves to the nearest hospitals for treatment of their injuries. They have all suffered burn injuries. The blast was severe enough for a section of US 350 to be shut down after the explosion. More than 25 fire department crews responded to the scene. Of the seven workers who suffered injuries, five have been released from the hospital, while two others continue to remain in the hospital. Fortunately, their conditions are not life-threatening. Investigators believe that drilling equipment managed to rupture a pipeline contributing to the blast.

Barely had Texas work injury lawyers recovered from that explosion when there was another deadlier one near Darrouzett in a remote part of the Panhandle. Two men have been confirmed killed in that explosion. The blast occurred when workers working for a dirt moving company were engaged in removing clay. This ruptured the pipeline, leading to the explosion.

Two natural gas explosions in a span of two days is hardly a freak or a coincidence. Investigators probing the first explosion are looking at whether the pipeline had been marked before drilling began. These explosions are often the result of failure to follow adequate safety precautions, lack of oversight, and lack of proper communication.

Already, Marshall County authorities are calling for better coordination between the county and gas companies. There were serious breakdowns in communication here. Emergency workers rushing to the scene had no information about how many workers were at the site, and had no idea who the supposed contact person at the site was either. This kind of communication lapse doesn’t help when there is a serious disaster, like the one that occurred in Cleburne.
