Two Workers Suffer Burn Injuries at BPs Texas City Refinery

Several news sources are reporting that two workers at BPs Texas City refinery have suffered serious burn injuries.  According to news reports, the men were working at one of the refineries crude units when they were burned by steam.

There isn’t a lot of information available about how the accident occurred, or what unit the men were working on.  The injuries were serious enough for the workers to be taken to a hospital.  According to some news reports, at least one worker is reported to have suffered 30% burns on his body.  He has been shifted to a Galveston area hospital.

This was the same refinery that was the scene of a deadly blast in 2005 that killed 15 workers.  The blast which tore through the refinery and injured more than 180 people, was the worst refinery explosion in American soil in recent memory.  The blast also resulted in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration levying penalties of more than $50 million against BP for worker safety violations at the refinery.

Our firm has recently filed a Mass injury lawsuit against BP for benzene exposure from its Texas City refinery plant.  The exposure occurred over a period of 40 days, when hundreds of thousands of pounds of chemicals, including benzene leaked into the Texas City atmosphere.

BP is likely to continue its interesting relationship with Houston work injury lawyers as long as it continues to brush off safety concerns.
