Police are looking for the driver of a white pickup truck they blame for a fatal motorcycle accident that killed a Texas couple last week. The driver left the scene of the accident.

The driver had stopped the white pickup truck in the middle of the Central Expressway without the hazard lights on. The truck was hit by a car, and the couple on a motorcycle was not able to avoid hitting the car. They sustained serious injuries in the accident. While the wife died at the scene, her husband was rushed to the hospital where he was placed in life-support. He was taken off life-support the next day. They leave behind two children, aged 5 and 13 years old.

According to Richardson police, the driver of the white pickup truck who triggered the pileup, simply fled the scene of the crash. Police are now looking for a white pickup truck with damage.

Motorcyclists are at a higher risk of suffering injuries or fatalities in an accident compared to motorists. A motorcyclist has minimal protection during impact, except for the helmet he wears. Even a helmet is no guarantee against suffering a traumatic brain injury, or even death. The rates of motorcycle fatalities have been extremely disconcerting to Houston motorcycle accident lawyers.

In 2009, however, there was a sudden drop in the number of motorcyclist crash fatalities in the US. For the first time in more than 11 years, there was a reversal of the earlier trend which saw an increase in the number of people being killed in motorcycle accidents every year. That trend was reversed last year, but we have no way of knowing right now whether this decline was a one-off occurrence, or just the beginning of a long-term reversal of motorcycle crash fatality rates.
