The Occupational Safety and Health Administration unveiled its top 10 most cited safety violations in the American workplace recently. The results were revealed at the National Safety Council Congress and Expo in San Diego California.
There weren’t too many surprises on the list for Houston work injury lawyers. As expected, there were plenty of violations in the construction industry, where safety continues to be a huge concern. This is one of the deadliest work places in America, and accounts for one out of every three workplace fatalities in the country.
The list also shows that we continue to lag behind in enforcing safety even when it involves some of the simplest and least complicated equipment. For instance, violations involving ladders account for some of the most frequent violations in the American workplace.
The top 10 list reads as follows:
- Scaffolding
- Fall protection
- Hazard communication
- Respirator protection
- Ladders
- Lockout that out
- Electrical, wiring methods
- Powered industrial trucks
- Electrical, general
- Machine guarding
Scaffolding collapses and other related accidents kill and injure hundreds in the construction industry every year. In spite of the fact that this is one of the most frequently cited violations, there doesn’t seem to have been much progress in increasing scaffolding safety.
