Diet Can Help Treat Brain Injury

Research commissioned by the US military has found that a diet rich in calories and proteins after a traumatic brain injury, can speed up the process of recovery.

The study was conducted by the Institute of Medicine, and involved an analysis of previous studies conducted into the use of nutrition to treat brain injury.  The results have been very interesting to Houston brain injury lawyers.  The researchers found from the studies that a combination of calories and proteins administered to patients within 24 hours of a traumatic brain injury can help improve the chances of survival of the patient.  Further, the study found that a high-calorie fusion like this could also reduce inflammation in the brain after an injury.

The Institute of Medicine has been impressed with the results of the study.  It is now calling on the US military to study whether better nutrition can provide a protection against brain injury to soldiers.  The researchers also acknowledge that the research is still very new, and there isn’t enough known about the link between nutrition and the treatment of traumatic injury.

Effective emergency treatment for a brain injury can be the only chance that a person has of a complete recovery.  In the first few hours after a brain injury, doctors may be able to limit the extent of the injury by treating the person as quickly as possible.  That is why it’s so important that when a person suffers a head injury, in a motorcycle accident, car accident, or the result of an industrial accident, diagnosis and treatment of the brain injury begin immediately.
