TV Star’s Death Puts Spotlight on Accident Risks from Speeding, Drunk Driving

Last week, Ryan Dunn, the star of MTV’s “Jackass” series was killed in an accident that police are blamed on drunk driving and speeding.  His passenger was also killed in the accident.  The two had been traveling down a Pennsylvania highway when their car went over a guardrail and into a ravine.  Dunn was killed at the scene.

According to police reports, his BAC level at the time of the accident was .196%.  That’s more than twice the legally allowed.08% limit.  Just a few minutes before the tragedy, Dunn had posted a picture of him and his friends drinking on Twitter.  According to the bartender, where Dunn had his alcohol before he set off in his car, he seemed fine when he left the establishment.

This reminds Houston car accident attorneys of a study that was done earlier this month, which indicated that a person did not have to be heavily intoxicated to cause accidents with serious injuries.  Even low levels of alcohol concentration could be sufficient.

Dunn’s accident has also been linked to speeding.  According to news accounts, he was driving at 140 mph at the time of the accident.  Speeding and drunk driving can be a deadly combination.  This tragedy has received extensive coverage in the media, and hopefully will alert motorists, especially young and teenage motorists, about the dangers of driving under the influence and speeding.
