Four Motorcycle Riders Killed in Texas Accident

Four motorcycle riders were killed in a deadly accident near Canton, Texas, when a car struck them head-on.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred when a Ford Mustang went out of control on Highway 19, crossed the median and struck the two motorcycles head-on.  There were two men and two women riding the motorcycles.  They were thrown off the motorcycles on impact.  They sustained serious injuries and died.  Three of the victims were in their 50s, and the fourth victim was in her 40s.  The motorist, a 31-year-old man has been charged with criminally negligent homicide.

Police are still investigating the accident.  There are no clues about why the motorist veered across the median.  Police have confirmed that the motorist had not been driving in an intoxicated condition.  Investigators also ruled out a tire blowout, or wheel damage as factor in the accident.

This accident is just another illustration of the risks to motorcyclists in Texas.  Those risks will only increase during summer when motorcyclists can expect to share their space with more drivers.  Many of those drivers will be intoxicated, distracted, or in a vacation mood, and will give little thought to safety.

A word of advice to all motorists – please drive safely and responsibly.  Remember, there are people out there whose safety depends on your decision to drive responsibly.
