Any Houston car accident lawyer, who is concerned about the distraction to teen drivers from texting devices and cell phones, will be interested in the results of a new survey. The survey conducted by a student of the University of Alabama at Birmingham shows that more young motorists are now using mobile phone apps while driving, distracting them from their driving duties.
The survey of 93 students of the University of Alabama at Birmingham found that approximately one third of the respondents admitted to “sometimes” using mobile phone apps, while about one in 10 admitted to “always” or “often” using these apps while driving. It’s bad enough that 35 percent of the respondents admitting to sometimes using mobile phone apps while driving. But it is shocking that 10% of college students use mobile phone apps every time they drive.
What’s worse is that these practices don’t stop when the motorist has been involved in an accident from the distracted driving. Approximately 10 out of the 93 students in the survey had been involved in accidents caused by distracted driving, but had not stopped using their communication devices. Two of the students in the study actually had been involved in two accidents each related to distracted driving.
It’s this fact that really stands out to Houston car accident attorneys. There are far too many teenage and young drivers out there who are very clearly aware of the dangers of distracted driving – and some have even experienced these dangers firsthand- but still can’t control themselves, and stop using these devices while driving.
