Houston Driver Charged in Fatal Accident

A Houston man, who recently caused a fatal drunk driving accident that killed a woman, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.  The twenty-two-year-old man was driving a car that crashed into another vehicle on the W. Sam Houston Pkwy feeder near Harwin.

According to police, the man was driving at excessive speeds.  At some point, he ran a red light and crashed into a Honda Civic.  The impact was deadly, and caused the Civic to spin around several times before it split into two and exploded into flames.  The driver of the Civic was killed.

According to some witnesses, the drunk driver had run several red lights just before the accident.  Police have confirmed that they found alcohol bottles in the vehicle, and that the accident seemed to have been linked to alcohol use.

The twenty-two-year-old driver was initially arrested on suspicion of DWI.  According to records, this is not the first time that he has been in trouble with the law.  He has faced charges of drug possession and assault at least twice over the past five years alone.

It takes some amount of reckless driving to cause an accident so severe that the other car splits in two and explodes into flames.  Accidents that involve speeding or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs typically end with devastating consequences.  It’s not unusual to see instantaneous fatalities and catastrophic injuries in accidents linked to driving at excessive speeds or driving under the influence.
