Texas Man Killed in Reno Plane Crash

A Texas man was killed in a devastating plane crash at an air show near Reno, Nevada last week.  According to news reports, the man had earlier volunteered at the Wings over Houston Air Show, and had been volunteering at the National Air Race Championships in Reno, when a World War II vintage plane went down into the grandstands.

The death toll from that plane crash has now touched 11 deaths.  Dozens of people are injured, many of them seriously.  Meanwhile, the National Transportation Safety Board has begun its investigation into the crash.  The Board is looking at the malfunctioning of the plane’s tail assembly as a factor in the crash.  Just moments before the plane crashed, the plane jerked up, and then nosedived into the ground.  The sudden jerking movement would have leashed excessive gravitational forces, and that possibly caused the pilot to lose consciousness.  Photographs of the plane in midair do not show the pilot at all, causing aviation safety experts to speculate that the pilot must have been unconscious just seconds before the crash.

Questions are being raised about the safety precautions taken at these races, which have become popular around the country.  Attendance at air shows are at record highs.  However, Houston personal injury lawyers find that organizers often take too many risks with spectator safety, allowing seating in dangerous areas, where the thrills are greater and the risks are equally high.
