Texas Companies Cited for Failure to Protect Against Noise, Fall Hazards

The Occupational Safety Health Administration has cited two Texas-based companies for a number of violations, including those related to noise hazards, hazardous dust exposure, and fall protection. The two companies are PJ Trailers Manufacturing Co. Inc. and Delco Trailers Company Inc.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, inspectors found a number of violations, including fall and noise hazards during inspections. The agency has proposed penalties of up to $949,800. The violations that the agency found include a failure to provide fall protection for employees working on trailers, failure to provide machine guarding, and eye protection during cutting and welding operations.

The companies were also cited for several repeat violations, including failure to ensure that all spray booth areas were free from powder-dusting, safeguarding from unsafe machinery, proper establishment of lockout/tag out procedures, and lack of training for employees to prevent accidents from sudden start of machinery.

The agency also cited the companies for serious violations, including fall protection, failure to train employees on electrical hazards, and failure to prevent excessive exposure to welding fumes.

In Texas, many employers carry Workers’ Compensation insurance, which means that employees who are injured on the job can recover compensation through this program. Workers may not be eligible to file a lawsuit against the employer for recovery.
