One worker has been confirmed injured in a refinery fire that raged through the Petrobras brass refinery in Pasadena, Texas this week. The fire broke out on December 10, and has now been extinguished.
The fire was triggered by an explosion at the Pasadena Refining System. The flames spread quickly, but firefighters were able to quickly contain the flames. There don’t appear to have been any chemicals released as a result of explosion.
One worker was injured in the fire. The injuries were reported to be noncritical. The injured employee was taken to a local hospital, and treated. The company confirmed that all employees had quickly been accounted for as soon as the fire broke out.
This is the 2nd fire at the same facility in just over 2 months. The same unit had suffered a similar fire on September 30. It had resumed normal operations only on November 30. The Pasadena refining system has a capacity of 106,500 barrels a day and a coking capacity of 12,500 barrels per day. The fire is under investigation. The refinery was operated by Petroleo Brasileiro SA.
