Portable Grills Recalled Due to Fire Risk

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is drawing attention to the recall of more than 4,500 portable gas grills, because of the risk of gas leak and fire hazards.

The 4500 O-Grill portable gas grills were manufactured by Uni-O Industries Corp. of Xiamen, China.  According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission recall alert, these grills may leak gas, and pose a potential explosion and fire hazard.  The recall includes the Iroda-o grill models 1000 and 3000.  The models were manufactured before 2010.  These were sold across the country at major retailers between November 2008 and December 2010.

The gas grills included in the recall are lightweight, portable grills that come with cast-iron cooking surfaces and retractable legs.  They’re built for use either with a 1-pound propane cylinder or a 20-pound propane tank.  These are available in orange, green, blue, red and silver and black colors.  Only grills that do not have ventilation slots in the regulator cover are included in the recall.  Regulators that come with ventilation slots have not been recalled.

Consumers have been asked to stop using the grills immediately, and contact the company toll-free at 888-847-8968 for a free replacement.  Fortunately, there have been no reports of any explosions, fires or injuries as a result of these defective drills.  However, the potential for explosions and fires is very real when the grill is leaking propane gas.
