Eight people, including 3 children, were killed in an accident in East Texas last week. The accident occurred when 2 cars collided on US 82 near Annona in a rural area of Texas. Annona is a rural town with a population of less than 300. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the 2 vehicles were involved in a head-on collision. Both vehicles burst into flames. Eight people, including a 29-year-old woman and her 3 children, were killed. The children were aged 8 years, 6 years and 10 months old.
The accident occurred on December 30, and so far, there are no clues about the reasons for the accident. There is no information about why one of the cars crossed the centerline and collided with the other, or why both vehicles burst into flames. The accident scene was discovered by another motorist who happened to be passing by, and saw both the cars in flames. There were no witnesses at the scene of the accident. The occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash have been identified as two persons from California.
This accident illustrates how dangerous rural roads can still be for motorists. The victims did not get the emergency care they needed because there was nobody around to help. Even if there had been people around to help, the victims’ chances of getting to an emergency care center in time to prevent fatal injuries, were fairly slim. Rural accidents have a greater risk of ending in deaths because of the lack of access to trauma care, among other factors.
