Toyota under Investigation for Door Fires

Toyota’s endless list of safety problems continues.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently announced that it will begin an investigation into reports of door fires on several Toyota vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating approximately 830,000 Toyota vehicles.  There is a special focus on investigating Camry vehicles as well as Toyota RAV4s from model year 2007.  According to the automaker, it has now received a notice of issue from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, indicating that it intends to begin an investigation.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it has received at least 6 reports of fires that erupted in the car doors.  The fire erupted in the driver’s side door of the automobiles.

Toyota has struggled to regain its auto safety reputation since 2009, when the first recalls were announced.  These recalls were related to the problem of unintended acceleration in Toyota vehicles, and since then, millions of cars have been recalled for this defect.  However, sudden unintended acceleration does not seem to be the only problem in Toyota vehicles.  As a Houston personal injury lawyer, I have also come across reports of other safety issues in their vehicles, ranging from steering problems to issues related to fuel tank safety.
