Motorcycle Accident Fatalities Could Spike over Next Few Years
Thursday, April 21st, 2011
The Governors’ Highway Safety Association has troubling news for Houston motorcycle accident attorneys. According to the agency's data, motorcycle accident fatalities across the country have dropped by 2.4% in 2010. However, the drop is too insignificant to be important, and much of the decline was recorded during a time when there were fewer motorcycles on the country's roads.
The report concludes that unless states take immediate steps to protect motorcyclists, we could be seeing another spike in motorcycle accident fatalities over the next few years. In 2009, motorcycle accident fatalities had recorded an 11-year drop of 16% in...
Study: Motorcycle Helmets Help Prevent Spine Injuries
Friday, February 18th, 2011
According to a new study, motorcycle riders who wear helmets at the time of an accident are approximately 22% less likely to suffer cervical spine injuries. The study goes against previously held beliefs that wearing helmets can actually increase a person's risk of suffering a neck or cervical spine injury during an accident.
That motorcycle helmets help prevent brain injury during a collision, is a fact that has been known to Houston motorcycle accident lawyers and motorcyclists. This study however proves that helmets also prevent other debilitating injuries, like cervical spine engines. The study conducted by researchers at...
Annual NTSB Wish List Focuses on Motorcycle Safety
Friday, November 19th, 2010
The National Transportation Safety Board has just released its annual “Most Wanted List of Transportation Safety” for 2010. This is a list of recommendations that the federal agency issues every year to states. This year, recreational boating safety has been dropped due to a decline in fatal boating accidents last year. Taking the place of recreational boating safety recommendations are calls for making motorcycle helmet mandatory for motorcyclists.
The NTSB says that mandating motorcycle helmets will prevent the large number of fatalities that occur every year in motorcycle crashes. In Texas, motorcyclists above the age of 21 are exempted...
Couple Killed in Deadly Texas Motorcycle Accident
Tuesday, September 28th, 2010
Police are looking for the driver of a white pickup truck they blame for a fatal motorcycle accident that killed a Texas couple last week. The driver left the scene of the accident.
The driver had stopped the white pickup truck in the middle of the Central Expressway without the hazard lights on. The truck was hit by a car, and the couple on a motorcycle was not able to avoid hitting the car. They sustained serious injuries in the accident. While the wife died at the scene, her husband was rushed to the hospital where he was...
It’s a No-Brainer: Motorcycle Helmets Save Lives
Friday, June 18th, 2010
In spite of a wide body of evidence proving that wearing motorcycle helmets dramatically reduces your risk of suffering brain injury in an accident, approximately one in four motorcyclists continues to ride without wearing one.
That disturbing fact comes via a survey by Consumer Reports. There were other frightening statistics emerging out of that survey. Many motorcyclists continue to ride without wearing protective gear. Just about 50% of the respondents said they wore protective boots, and 25% said they wore leather jackets. Less than 10% wore protective pants or brightly colored, visible clothing. Three out of every five...
Motorcyclist Killed in Houston Accident
Wednesday, March 10th, 2010
Speed and lack of helmet use are being blamed for a fatal motorcycle accident in Houston last week. The accident apparently involved a motorcyclist traveling at high speeds on the 610 South Loop when the motorcycle crashed into a car. Witnesses at the scene have said that the motorcyclist had been speeding, and was also not wearing a helmet. The motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident.
Investigations into the causes of this crash are still going on, but If an old rule mandating helmet use for motorcyclists in Texas had still been in force, there was a chance...
