Slight Decline in U.S. Workplace Accident Fatalities in 2010

Friday, September 16th, 2011

Statistics from the Bureau of Labor show that there has been a slight decline in overall workplace fatalities in the year 2010, including in the construction sector.  Last year, there were 4,547 workplace accident fatalities, a drop of four fatalities since 2009. However, as a Houston work accident lawyer, I would advise against any optimism.  That's just a decline of four deaths over the previous year.  There is also enough indication that the decline is the result of poor economic conditions. Many industries, including the construction industry, saw lowered activity in 2010, and that meant fewer workers...

Even Safer Workplaces in Houston Are Not Free from Accident Hazards

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Under the Occupational Safety and Health of Administration’s Voluntary Protection Program, workplaces that the agency decides are “model workplaces” are not put through regular inspections.  The logic is that these workplaces have done a good job of providing a safe environment for their workers.  However, recent work place accidents involving so-called model workplaces under the Voluntary Protection Program have proved to Houston workplace accident lawyers that this is not the case at all. According to the Huffington Post, since the year 2000, at least 80 workers have died in workplaces which the Occupational Safety and Health Administration believes...

Increase in Workplace Injuries among Older American Workers

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Houston work injury lawyers are likely to come across more elderly workers suffering injuries in the workplace over the next decade.  According to a study by the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, there has been a spike in the number of older workers being injured in workplace-related accidents, like fall accidents. The agency data shows that there is no real difference in overall accident and injury rates between younger workers and older workers.  In fact, in some types of accidents, older workers seem to fare much better than younger workers.  However, in other types of accidents like falls, and injuries like fractures,...
