Toyota's endless list of safety problems continues. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently announced that it will begin an investigation into reports of door fires on several Toyota vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating approximately 830,000 Toyota vehicles. There is a special focus on investigating Camry vehicles as well as Toyota RAV4s from model year 2007. BMW Fined $3 Million for Not Reporting Safety Defects Immediately

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has fined automaker BMW $3 million for failure to report defects immediately, and failure to provide adequate information about safety defects.
According to the federal agency, it evaluated a total of 16 BMW recalls, including those for motorcycles as well as automobiles, since 2010 and found a number of instances where BMW did not report safety defects to the agency in time. Under federal law, automakers who discover defects in their vehicles must report these to the federal agency immediately, or within 5 business days of discovering the defect.

Hewlett-Packard Fax Machines Recalled Due to Burn Injury Hazards

Hewlett-Packard, in association with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, has announced a recall of fax machines because of a possible burn injury hazard. The Hewlett-Packard fax machines included in the recall include model numbers 1040 and 1050. According to the company, it has received reports of several fires involving these fax machines.
A total of 1 million fax machines are being recalled. Out of these, about 980,000 machines have been recalled from the United States, while the remaining have been recalled from Canada.

Two Workers Injured in Electrical Accident at Texas Biomass Power Plant

At least 2 workers are reported to have been seriously injured in an electrical accident at a biomass power plant in East Texas. The accident occurred at the facility operated by Minnesota-based Fagen Inc. The facility is located in Sacul, about 155 miles northeast of Houston.
According to representatives of the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Department, the accident involved an electrical explosion. No further details are available. The 2 workers sustained serious injuries, and remain in a critical condition. They are likely to be soon transferred to the burn unit at the Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

32 People Injured in Texas School Bus-Truck Accident

An accident involving a Texas school bus and a tractor-trailer left at least 32 people injured seriously enough for them to be taken to the hospital. Out of the injured, 29 of were children.
The accident occurred just outside Temple, about 60 miles northeast of Austin. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the tractor-trailer allegedly ran a stop sign and crashed into a school bus. Defective Children’s Toys Seized at Houston Port

Federal consumer safety investigators have seized more than 25,000 defective children's toys at the Port of Houston, more than any other consumer product imported into this country. Those toys included a number of hazards, ranging from choking and strangulation hazards to lead poisoning risks.
The approximately 25,000 toys that were seized were part of 117,000 foreign products that were seized at the Port of Houston between 2010 and 2011. These recalled products included lighters, mattresses, and electronic devices.

Clinical trials into the effect of female sex hormone progesterone on brain injury continue. In the UK, researchers have just begun trials to see whether the hormone can help speed up recovery after a traumatic brain injury. Initial trials in the United States have already yielded promising results.

A truck accident involving a UPS tractor-trailer last week is being blamed on a distracted driver. Fortunately, the accident did not result in any injuries, although it did cause an explosion and fire.
