Two Workers Injured in Electrical Accident at Texas Biomass Power Plant

At least 2 workers are reported to have been seriously injured in an electrical accident at a biomass power plant in East Texas.  The accident occurred at the facility operated by Minnesota-based Fagen Inc.  The facility is located in Sacul, about 155 miles northeast of Houston. According to representatives of the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Department, the accident involved an electrical explosion.  No further details are available.  The 2 workers sustained serious injuries, and remain in a critical condition.  They are likely to be soon transferred to the burn unit at the Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. 32 People Injured in Texas School Bus-Truck Accident

An accident involving a Texas school bus and a tractor-trailer left at least 32 people injured seriously enough for them to be taken to the hospital.  Out of the injured, 29 of were children. Defective Children’s Toys Seized at Houston Port

Federal consumer safety investigators have seized more than 25,000 defective children's toys at the Port of Houston, more than any other consumer product imported into this country.  Those toys included a number of hazards, ranging from choking and strangulation hazards to lead poisoning risks. The approximately 25,000 toys that were seized were part of 117,000 foreign products that were seized at the Port of Houston between 2010 and 2011.  These recalled products included lighters, mattresses, and electronic devices. Trials Will Probe if Female Sex Hormones Can Help Treat Brain Injury

Clinical trials into the effect of female sex hormone progesterone on brain injury continue.  In the UK, researchers have just begun trials to see whether the hormone can help speed up recovery after a traumatic brain injury.  Initial trials in the United States have already yielded promising results. Fiery Houston UPS Truck Accident Traced to Distracted Driver

A truck accident involving a UPS tractor-trailer last week is being blamed on a distracted driver.  Fortunately, the accident did not result in any injuries, although it did cause an explosion and fire. Concerns about Safety Risks of Painkiller Zohydro

Portable Grills Recalled Due to Fire Risk

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is drawing attention to the recall of more than 4,500 portable gas grills, because of the risk of gas leak and fire hazards. FDA Warns of Injuries from Drug Mix-up

The Food and Drug Administration is warning health-care workers of the very real risk of errors while using two separate health-care products that have similar sounding names.  The first product is a wart remover, and the other is an eye salve.
