Report Shows Americans Continue to Be at Risk from Defective Foreign-Manufactured Drugs

A report by the Government Accountability Office indicates that the Food and Drug Administration has made little progress in addressing the problem of infrequent and insufficient inspections of foreign drug manufacturing facilities.
Many of the drugs that Americans now consume are manufactured in plants in China, India and other foreign countries. The Food and Drug Administration has devoted precious few resources to inspecting these plants. Americans Want Safer Medications

According to a new survey, most Americans support enhanced drug safety, to the point where they would support stronger laws for it. In fact, 81% of Americans say they would support a law that would place strong new drug safety measures in place.

Pharmaceutical company Roche’s anti-acne medication Accutane has been the subject of thousands of personal injury lawsuits. Most of these lawsuits have centered on the allegation that Accutane causes inflammatory bowel disease. The latest Accutane-related lawsuit that Roche will come up against however, will have a Hollywood tinge. FDA Recommends Avandia Be Withdrawn from Market

An FDA panel this week recommended that Glaxo's anti diabetes drug, Avandia be either withdrawn from the market, or that the ageny place restrictions on its use. It was a major blow to GlaxoSmithKline, but not entirely unexpexpected to Houston injury lawyers, given that Glaxo had come under such criticism from an FDA ofcial last week.
